Marthe Armitage

Marthe Armitage is an inspiration. Born in 1930 and having studied painting at the Chelsea School of Arts, in the 1950s she started designing lino-cut wallpapers. All of Marthe’s designs are hand-drawn and after sketching the design she uses hand-cut lino blocks and a century-old offset lithographic printing press to create custom-printed rolls of wallpaper. It is a time-consuming creative process.

Marthe Armitage has transferred six of her original hand lino-cut designs into hand screen printed fabrics and wallpapers, in a simple colour palette of six colours. Customers may also view and select from the incredible hand printed selection and order directly with Nicola Lawrence at Please view the short video on Marthe Armitage. She is a true artisan.
