The following is a list of books and Instagram accounts I enjoy.  Each is a source of learning, joy, inspiration and beauty in words, images and thoughts. The list is an edit of my most treasured (there are many more) and is in no particular order.

Books
A Place to Call Home

A Place to Call Home
Gil Schafer III

Award winning American architect Gil Schafer's reflections on 'home and architecture' with images of many beautiful houses and rooms and how they work within the landscape and with keeping in mind how their owners will live in them. The images and words are wonderful.

Veere Grenney: On Decorating - A Point of View

Veere Grenney: On Decorating - A Point of View
Veere Grenney

My choice of design book for 2018.  Veere Grenney trained under Mary Fox Linton and David Hicks and was later a director at Colefax and Fowler before launching his own company in London 22 years ago. The book explores rooms and decorating ideas, designers who inspired him and his own beautiful homes in England and Tangiers.

One Man's Folly - The Exceptional Houses of Furlow Gatewood

One Man's Folly - The Exceptional Houses of Furlow Gatewood
Julia Reed

This book is a joy. Antiques expert Furlow Gatewood has created a magical enclave in the wonderfully named and pretty Americus, Georgia where he has restored his family’s carriage house and added other buildings, rescued from demolition – from mid 19thC Gothic to Palladian. The buildings and gardens are a delight – filled with collected pieces, antiques, artworks and dogs, and are supremely comfortable.

English Decoration

Ben Pentreath

Ben is a London based architect, interior designer and 'shop keeper' of truly lovely 'goods and furnishings'. This, his first book, details the timeless decoration of 18 English homes including his country home (a parsonage in Dorset) and his former London home. I highly recommend Ben's (mostly) weekly blog - he writes and photographs beautifully and he and his husband Charlie live most interesting and aesthetic lives. Ben's second book, English Houses, published in August 2016, is just as beautiful.  www.pentreath-hall.com
